LITUK is not the official booking service. LITUK.org is an independent, free study guide. We cannot book, change or cancel tests, see your account or send results. To do any of those, start from GOV.UK: Book the Life in the UK Test. GOV.UK describes it as the only official government service for booking the test.
Why the names get mixed up
The official booking system is run by PSI Services for the Home Office, and it calls the test “LitUK”, short for Life in the UK. Your account there is your Life in the UK account. This site is also called LITUK, so searches such as “lituk login”, “lituk account” or “lituk test booking” sometimes land here by mistake.
If that is how you arrived, you are in the right place for one thing only: getting to the real service quickly and safely. The rest of this page shows you how, and what to do if something has gone wrong.
How to reach the official booking service
- Open gov.uk/life-in-the-uk-test.
- Under “Book the test”, select Start now. This opens the official booking service. At the time of writing, its web address is lituktestbooking.co.uk.
- Sign in to your Life in the UK account, or register if this is your first booking. Each person who takes the test books separately.
- Pay the £50 test fee by debit or credit card.
Start from GOV.UK every time rather than from a search result or an advert. Look-alike sites and paid adverts can appear above the real service, and starting from GOV.UK is the simplest way to know you are in the right place.
Sign in, change or cancel a booking
Use the same Life in the UK account you booked with. GOV.UK’s cancellations, refunds and complaints page explains how to cancel: sign in, select “Confirmed tests”, then select “Cancel tests”.
- Refunds: you get the £50 back if you cancel at least 3 days (72 hours) before your test, or if the test centre cancels. It goes back to the card you paid with.
- New date or time: the official FAQ says you can move your test free of charge up to 72 hours before. Inside 72 hours, you have to cancel without a refund and book again.
- Your name and date of birth: these cannot be changed once you have registered. The official service says you need a new account. Most other details can be edited until the day before your test.
Problems with your account or result
LITUK cannot see, unlock or edit official accounts. If your account is locked, you have forgotten your sign-in details, a booking looks wrong or your result email has not arrived, contact the Life in the UK Test Helpline:
- Email: support@lituk.psionline.com
- Phone: 0800 015 4245, Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm
The official FAQ says the email with your unique reference number should arrive within 10 minutes of finishing your test. If nothing has arrived after 24 hours, contact the helpline. Our guide to Life in the UK test results explains what happens after the test.
How to spot unofficial booking sites and scams
Some third-party websites charge more than £50 to book the test for you. Watch for these warning signs:
- The price is above £50 for a standard test. The official service lists optional extras at checkout, such as a short-notice slot (£25) or a Sunday test (£25). The basic test is always £50.
- You did not get there from GOV.UK. If you cannot trace the site back to the Start now button on GOV.UK, close it.
- Someone asks for your details outside the official site. Do not share your account password, eVisa share code or card details by phone, email, text message or social media.
- They offer a guaranteed pass, the answers, or someone to sit the test for you. That is cheating. The official service reports cheating to the Home Office and the police, and it can affect your application.
- They want payment another way. GOV.UK says you book with a debit or credit card. Bank transfers, gift cards and cryptocurrency are red flags.
If you have paid an unofficial site, contact your bank or card provider first. In England, Wales or Northern Ireland, report fraud to Report Fraud or on 0300 123 2040. In Scotland, call Police Scotland on 101. You can also report a scam website to the NCSC. Then book through GOV.UK if you still need a test.
What LITUK is for
LITUK is a free way to prepare. There is no account to create and no payment to make. You can learn each handbook topic in short pages, check yourself with three quick questions, and take full mock exams with 24 questions in 45 minutes and the same 75% pass mark.
When you are passing mock exams comfortably, book your test through GOV.UK. Our booking guide walks through each step, and the cost guide lists the official fees.
